So, let's be real... if you're reading my blog posts, more than likely you're a friend or better yet, a family member. I'm a firm believer that friends ought to help each other out, right? Well friends, let me recommend this cookbook to you that I came across on one of our library visits a few weeks ago. 100 Days of Real Food: fast and fabulous I've read Lisa Leake's blog and her journey to cut out processed foods from her family's diet and have even used several of her recipes. (Her 5-minute brownies are the only brownies that I ever make now. They are delicious!) But friends, this cookbook is incredible! I have made so many of these recipes over the last few weeks and my family has loved them. They are full of flavor, are healthy and don't have 8 million ingredients required like some cookbooks. This cookbook makes for good reading too. That might sound strange, but the first 50 pages are stocked full of topics such as, Supermarket Staples and Secrets, Real Food Defined, Grocery Store Illusions, Meal Plans and more. I highly recommend it. I'm off to sample the lastest recipe that I've made from this cookbook: Sausage and Lentil Stew with homemade cream biscuits....yes, please!

We've been studying the states of matter this week and I came across an activity that I knew my kids would love. It allowed us to have a great conversation about each state and how heating and cooling cause changes in states of matter. And most importantly (to my kiddos, anyway) it involved a competition! They get very excited about competitions. First, we looked at a chart that I had created about how the molecules act in each state of matter. We even became molecules ourselves and moved as we would in each state. Our discussion time allowed the kids to use prior knowledge about what happens to ice and water from everyday experiences. We then reviewed the Scientific Method and I explained the directions of our "experiment." Each one of them made a hypothesis about which "action" would make their ice cube melt faster. Let the competition begin! They took turns rolling their die and performed each action to their ice cube. They had a blast! This was a great way to end a dreary, rainy school day. Enjoy! |
